Château de Luc

The Château de Luc is situated in the town of Luc, located in the Lozère département of the Occitanie region in France.

History

• Built on a previous Celtic site in the 12th century, the castle served as a strategic point between the provinces of Gévaudan and Vivarais. As a toll-gate on the Regordane Way, it guarded a link to southern France frequently used by pilgrims of Saint Gilles.
• The castle was initially home to the Luc family for approximately 100 years before being acquired by other regional seigneurs in the 13th century.
• During the Hundred Years' War, the castle withstood several sieges.
• In the 16th century, it was garrisoned by the state of Gévaudan during the Wars of Religion.
